This is a great kit to use with the children over the summer or to just have around when additional learning practice is desired. I feel like this kit has a good variety of items and presents things in a fun way, allowing the kids to enjoy learning. They do a good job of explaining how to use all of the items in this kit as well. The activity book provided really explains how to use the kit and goes into detail with each item they provided. You get several journals with this kit. There are a couple different kinds of writing that you can practice with these journals: ~The "Either....Or...Journal" gives the children several prompts with different scenarios they could encounter and leaves them with a choice to make. It asks them which choice they would make and why. It provides 2 lined pages to answer each question in detail. ~The "Spinning Stories" journal is a creative writing booklet that gives you a head start on your stories by allowing you to spin to choose a character, setting, object and present participle (though they spell it participal). For these stories it has the children make a title and allows them two lined pages to write on. I like that in this booklet there is a page at the beginning going over some commonly misused words and a page at the end to give ideas of different ways to say "said." ~The "Reading Comprehension" journal has several different stories and gives several questions about the story for the children to answer. Some of these questions are basic questions where you look back at the text for the answers and some are deeper questions where they have to put a little more thought in it. I also like that it will pull out some vocabulary words and encourage the children to understand the meaning through reading the text. Each question offers a good amount of writing space. ~The "MIxed Skills Math Journal" is exactly as it sounds. There are a good variety of math activities in this book and the front and back of the book gives you some review concepts to look over. This journal keeps it interesting with the variety of activities and has many pages that are more game-like, so they don't just feel like they are doing math problems. You also get several two-sided mats to use for additional practice with some concepts. There is a place value chart, time, fractions, graphs, the frayer 4-square mat for vocabulary practice, word investigations mat for learning new words, base words (prefix/suffix), multiple word pyramid and a mat to jot down ideas for opinion writing. These all come with a dry erase marker that has its own built-in eraser. This kit also comes with a fun game using knowledge of area and perimeter to build a zoo. I love that this is something the older kids can play together at any time. In addition to all of this they provide you with a couple extra tools. The Infinity Symbol Breathing tool is a nice calming technique that I can use with any of the kids in the house. The ruler is color coded and covers measurements and fractions (including equivalent fractions). The E.Z.C. reader is also very handy and can be helpful with the younger children as well. The activity book gives you detailed information on how to use this as well, but it can be great to help kids stay on task. Overall, I am really happy with this kit. I love the variety of items it includes and that it encompasses different learning styles. All of the tools included are very useful and the activity book does a great job on leading you in the right direction with each of them. I would definitely recommend this kit to others and will probably be checking out some of the other age levels as well in the future.
